I am learning to code!

I was always interested in computers as a child and I would find myself exploring the PC that we had in the late 90s, playing PlayStation games for days on end and making robots after watching Robot Wars on TV (who remembers that show?)

This led me to deciding to study IT and electronics at GCSE and Software Development at college.

Unfortunately, I didn't take advantage of my time at college due to outside influences (partying and just general nonsense) and I graduated with pretty limited coding knowledge.

Fast forward 12 years and I have decided to embark on a journey to teach myself Python, a simple programming language.

But why?

Steve Jobs once said that everyone should learn how to program because it teaches you to think in a certain way.

Technology is developing rapidly, and in my opinion, lawyers should be able to understand the logic behind the technological changes affecting their clients.

I do not want to be limited to thinking like a lawyer or a businesswoman. I also want to think like a programmer.

In addition to this, the legal industry is using technology to streamline processes such as automating document review, and I have no doubt that the way lawyers work will look very different in twenty years time. I am determined to be driving the change rather than trying to keep up with it.

Paul Lewis, a partner at Magic Circle firm Linklaters said that "We see coding as very useful for lawyers who are involved in technologies such as blockchain, smart contracts and AI. But, at an even more basic level, it's also just useful for lawyers to have a grounding in computational logic - it complements all sorts of traditional legal skills."

# Girlswhocode

I remember being one of the only two girls in my class at college. The course was heavily male-dominated and I don't think that this has changed much in the past 12 years.

With many high paying jobs in the tech sector, I think its time to break the norms and encourage more girl to code.

Who is with me?
