Why I wanted to read this book...

I decided to read this book after hearing it recommended over and over again by a range of successful training contract applicants.

Before buying the book, I didn't really know exactly what it was going to cover. However, I heard that the book was great for commercial awareness, so I had to get a copy!

My thoughts...

The book is quite light at around 150 pages and it is structured a bit like an glossary of terms that follows a logical structure. It will teach you everything from how currency works, how the stock market works, how inflation works to how to read the Financial Times.

The book is aimed at students and people with limited knowledge of how the city operates. It is written in as plain English as can be expected, and I was grateful for the analogies given by the author, which helped to break down complex ideas in to a more digestible format on many occasions.

After reading a few pages of the book, I listened to one of my favourite podcasts, Wake Up to Money and I understood what the presenter meant by the AIM market. I was really happy with my new found stock market knowledge and I really felt that I understood more of the show,

That being said, I think I will need to read the book a few more times before I feel comfortable with all of the content, because some of the concepts are still quite hard to remember, but overall I think it is a vital book for any aspiring lawyer as it will help fill in gaps and give you a solid base which you can build upon by reading the news and listening to podcasts.

Need-to-read-o-meter: 10/10
